As I reflect on the food photography workshop from the past weekend, I am still in awe of how much everyone accomplished and improved in their work. The critique at the end was enlightening and I was impressed with how the same food was used in the shots but they all looked very different. Here are a few of my photos of the food that I made for the workshop…. recipes will be coming soon.

PS I would love for the comments and critiques to continue. Fee free to comment or post your pics here if you attended the class. Oh, there will be another workshop happening soon in Brooklyn, NY in the next month or so! wooh!

Big News: Food Photography Workshop 2012

Today, I have the pleasure to announce that I am hosting a VEGAN food photography workshop in my Ohio photography studio, which will be taught May 12, 2012 by Clare Barboza. If you are not familiar with her work, please grab a cup of coffee, relax and enjoy her website here. By my request, her Saturday workshop will focus on a vegan menu and include some comfort food. About 3-4 dishes total will be plated, styled and shot by her and then you will have the opportunity to learn tips, tricks and of course shoot too. This spring she is currently doing a workshop series with the very well known Helen Dujardin from Tarteletteblog.com. If you are looking for a 3-4 day course you may want to check that out as well.

Here is a brief bio…

“Clare Barboza is a Seattle-based food photographer, with a passion for documenting how food goes from the farm to the kitchen to the table. She has photographed several cookbooks and regularly shoots for various publications, restaurants, and chefs. Clare also leads a variety of photography workshops out of her studio in downtown Seattle.

If you are concerned about Ohio being the boonies, rest assured I am centrally located one hour from Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Akron/Canton. New York and Chicago are both 6 hours away. I am in a very quaint small town in Ohio called Poland with historic homes and a lot of history. There are hotels nearby and a bed and breakfast within walking distance from the studio. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all that can come and enjoy the day with us. I can’t tell you how long I have wanted to do something like this and I am so thrilled to have a wonderful person and instructor like Clare to work with. More info for sign-up and class prices can be found here. I am sure the spots will go quickly. What are you waiting for? I hope to see you all soon!

In case you wanted more info about me or my town, here are a couple photos…

Our beautiful town library won many awards for it’s innovative eco friendly design, repurposing of a century home inside the new structure and all of the green building materials used. Plus it over looks a pretty creek. What’s not to love?

Here is the back of the first bank of the western reserve built in 1876 where my studio is located. It was converted into flats in the early 40’s and has quite a bit of charm. Can you see through the trees and gate to the 1st floor window on the right? That 10ft window is one of the studio windows!

And this is a side view in case you were really curious… Here you can catch a glimpse of the new paint scheme going up. This building is going to be gorgeous by the end of 2012!
